It's Manchester so we can't do much about the rain, but tonight in the cramped environs of the Roadhouse, we can
make sure it's hot enough for these Californian girls on tour. Tonight it's sweat drippingly hot in the cramped,
sleazy, underground environs of the Roadhouse. In other words its an ideal backdrop for Erase Errata to display
their wares
The crowd that seemed to have disappeared after Donna Mathew's latest band Klang
finished their set suddenly and silently re-appear from the shadows, much in the same
manner that the band take to the stage.
It's eyeballs at 2 paces as vocalist/trumpeter Jenny Hoysten looks out over the heads,
preparing herself for the half hour of fun that is to follow
"Not Fade Away"& "CC Rider" set the standard for the night, disjointed rhythms and
punchy bass lines are topped off with the scatter gun vocals of Hoysten, who appears
at time as though she is voicing aloud her thoughts, and entertaining it is to watch or
dance to. Dancing is what this crowd want to do and with numbers such as "White
Horse" there is plenty of opportunity for that, and soon the temperature has risen
several more degrees
Bassist Ellie Erickson plays as though the wants to win
the worlds limbo championships at the same time,
whilst guitarist Sara Jaffe tries her damndest not to smile, but everyone - crowd
included- seems to be enjoying themselves so much, that cracks appear across her
expression as the riffs fly from her guitar.
Hoysten appears naturally at ease with her audience, and there is even an
entertaining mid set banter as a mix up with drummer Bianca Sparta over song intro's
is turned to their advantage. Invitations thrown to the audience to come and stay at
her Californian abode are returned with
interest: "You can stay at mine tonight in Moss
Side"
There will be plenty more invitations like that during this tour
