They've moved Desolation Angels to opening slot and I've missed them. Still, that means that I'll catch Jackie O, a
band who I’ve only encountered via the Glam Slam event at night & day.
Mind you the quality music in the Roadhouse- X-Ray Spex, Johnathon Richman, Joy
Division,- et all, put the crowd in an expectant mood
It turns out to be a frenetic, 25 minute, adrenalin pumping, sweat sodden, trip down
the punk energy highway. Not a pale imitation of the original, but a furious mixture of
the 70’s spirit and 00’s nihilism. Buzz saw guitars from the leather clad manic
Captain Starfield and cohorts kick in from the off and continue to accelerate along.
The man contorts his frame, stretching every sinew in his body, along with the music,
wrapping himself around the mic stand if he gets the chance. Guitars are disposable
instruments, to be used to knock more holes in the scarred ceiling, an accessory in
the visual element of the performance. His exuberance spills out of every pore
I've got no idea what it sounds like on vinyl, but it
would take a lot to capture the atmosphere of the gig.
This is a perfect example of throwing away that CD
player for a couple of hours, getting yourself down to
listen to music as it should be heard- in a live setting
