The National Museum of Popular Music. What a pretentious name to match a pretentious concept. It was destined to failure, that was obvious, yet in turn it developed into another regional outlet of the Barfly network, and this time it does work, the venue that is.
Curtains draped along the glass frontage keep out the vestiges of daylight, a pre-requisite of all good clubs. An already intimate venue is made more so by the fabric wrapping the ceiling, supplementing the acoustics as well as the aesthetics, as so well utilised by one of tonight's acts, Jackie O.
Soon Sister Ruth is flailing her drum kit to piece, whilst Captain Starfield, dispenses just about the right amount of snarl, curled lip & attitude to an ever increasing crowd. Focused and intense Starfield shrugs off the snags that hit the warm up, blown amps etc., to dispense the mashed up sounds of surf-meets-punk-meets good time rock'n'roll that typifies a Jackie O gig.
Like the spinning wheels in an one armed bandit, you can see the confusion running around the virgin punters. "This could be good" " I might be enjoying this" Then the closing number "Che" merges into "Conseula's Ass" and hits home, Jo-Jo's rampant bass linking with the Captains scuzzy guitar and messed up drawl, the feedback ricocheting around.  The crowd clap not quite knowing what to make of the display. They think they've enjoyed it. They probably have
