MUSIC IN MANCHESTER

The Parkinsons
Roadhouse, 7/3/02

It's packed out, hot and sweaty, although the Parkinsons don't need those reasons as an incentive to strip down to their boxers. After their incendiary visit to the Retro bar 4 months ago, a lot of new faces have left comfy armchairs to sample and see for themselves whether or not the hype is justified.
They don't leave disappointed. Second number in "Bad Girls" acts as a trigger for a mass outbreak of po-going seldom seen this side of `77, and for those too young not to have seen it first time around, I can vouch that it does approach the spirit "the old days".
Subtly is not a word in their dictionary. Three chord numbers infused with a potent energy that turns the unit into a frenzy of flying arms legs and torsos, a spectacle lapped up by an audience that in turn becomes a vibrant, seething mess . Images of the Clash colliding with the Jam flash past older eyes, and like all good things, they leave the audience wanting more.
