MUSIC IN MANCHESTER

Sleater Kinney
Roadhouse 2/9/99

A high key performance at a low key venue in the hottest, sweatiest conditions I’ve ever experienced there.
Carrie Brownstein
Mixing old & new the twin vocalists alternating not merely verses, but words; bass, guitar & drums intermesh in strange, twisting arrangements keeping the sounds fresh & free from the boring and repetitious.
The fragility of their voices believe the intensity of the owner, yet are always strong enough to convey the conviction of the intentions. If they play like this at every gig how long before rigours tell?
Suffice to say I’ve seen, more importantly heard, them unleashing their passion on an audience gleefully willing to bear the brunt of their lyrics, yet counterbalancing this with a vibrant, driving sound Power, washed down with a generous dollop of humour.
