Have your heard the original "Holding Back the Years"
"Yeah course. Simply Red.  Who hasn't heard it?"
"No, that one is a cover version.   The original was by the Frantic Elevators, with Mick on vocals"
"Oh"
First blood tonight to Alex with obscure fact number 1
Ithaca, stripped of synths and samples, go back to basis, using the strengths of a vocalist that can fill a room on her own with her rich deep tones, that melds into an almost reggae tinged, laid back delicious feel on "Handsome Devil"
Monophobe play their first ever gig, presenting a close approximation to the original of "Everyday Hurts"
Enter Nudge, not so much covering, but trampling, crushing then recycling "Grandma We Love You" with such an intensity matched only by the attention paid to their dress sense.  Today it's pleated skirts, modeled by Harry Nudge, who somehow manages to segue into a version of "7 days" , something about going shopping at Tesco on a Tuesday   Two for the price of one
"Why She's a Girl from the Chain Store" is presented by Six Disc Runner with the fervour and intensity of the Buzzcocks
Morriseys sexuality is again questioned by Stephen Nancy as he prepares to deliver "Death of a Disco Dancer"
Fairly close remakes of "I'm not in Love" (European) & "I Wanna Be Adored" (Indigo Jones) are received, separated by the caustic, searing, delivery of Mark Hoyle, fronting a combination of You & Dub Sex, with "Man In the Box"
If the original was a rambling, shambolic affair , then the recitation by the Eunice Bobcats of "Wrote for Luck" doesn't quite have the kitchen sink, but it does have a washboard
Back lit strobes provide that only lighting to the intense, crushing beats of nYLON pYLON as "In Yer Face" attempts to push the walls of the Roadhouse out into the streetDrenched in feedback, emerging onto the stage one by one, final act the Cardinals take to the stage to deliver "Holding Back The Years" except that this time it's the last song at the last event of it's type by Jay & Andy.   It's been a good six months, what's next?
